The question we are most frequently asked by our customers is: “How much do your radiators consume?” Since electric heating is still not a widespread choice in Italy, many people are hesitant to install this type of radiator, mainly due to concerns about electricity consumption.
How Dual-Therm technology works
Radialight Dual-Therm electric radiators combine efficiency with Italian design, delivering high thermal comfort with reduced energy consumption. But how do they manage to heat effectively without wasting energy?
The two combined heating systems
Each Dual-Therm radiator integrates two distinct heating elements:
- Convective element: an aluminium heating element located in the lower part of the radiator, designed to quickly distribute heat throughout the room.
- Radiant element: an etched-foil heating film on the front panel, which radiates heat evenly and directly.

This combination allows the room to heat up quickly and then maintain a stable temperature over time, significantly reducing overall energy consumption.
Intelligent temperature control
Each radiator is equipped with an intelligent electronic control board that automatically manages the operation of the two heating systems. A temperature sensor checks the room temperature every 30 seconds and optimises energy use based on both the set temperature and the actual room conditions, ensuring consistent comfort.

How consumption is measured
To determine how much Dual-Therm electric radiators consume, Radialight uses three key performance indicators:
Temperature amplitude
Measures how much the room temperature fluctuates around the set value. A low amplitude indicates stable, even heating without uncomfortable swings.
Temperature drift
Evaluates the radiator’s ability to maintain the set temperature even when outdoor conditions change, such as from mild weather to colder night-time temperatures.
Temperature stratification
Detects temperature differences at various heights from the floor. The goal is to ensure comfort throughout the room, from floor level to ceiling.
These tests are carried out inside a bi-climatic chamber, a controlled environment that simulates different climate conditions.
Consumption tests under different climate conditions
Radialight tests were conducted using a Klima 2000W radiator in a 12 m² room. Below are the results:
Mild climate area (9°–15°C)
- Set temperature: 21°C
- Simulated outdoor temperature: 11°C
- Room temperature: 21.2°C
- Amplitude: 0.2°C
- Average consumption: 29% (≈ 0.58 kWh / €0.11 per hour)
Cold climate area (0°–5°C)
- Set temperature: 21°C
- Simulated outdoor temperature: 1.9°C
- Room temperature: 21.5°C
- Amplitude: 0.5°C
- Average consumption: 42% (≈ 0.90 kWh / €0.18 per hour)
Very cold climate area (0° to –10°C)
- Set temperature: 21°C
- Simulated outdoor temperature: –9°C
- Room temperature: 21.4°C
- Amplitude: 0.4°C
- Average consumption: 72% (≈ 1.38 kWh / €0.28 per hour)
Even under the harshest conditions, Dual-Therm radiators maintain excellent comfort with controlled energy consumption.
How much it costs to heat with Dual-Therm radiators
Test data clearly shows that electric heating can be cost-effective, especially thanks to intelligent temperature control. With average running costs between €0.11 and €0.28 per hour for a 2000W radiator, it is easy to estimate the overall heating cost for your home.
